Renter's State of Emergency

Rents are increasing. Eviction processes are unreasonable and inhumane, and it's not getting any better for Atlanta. Join the Housing Justice League in declaring a: renter's state of emergency.

Change of rent vs. change of income

Census tracts considered "gentrifying" increase by 55% between 1990 and 2010. Over 53% of renters in Atlanta spend more than 30% of their income on rent. Approximately 95% of apartments built from 2012-2014 were considered luxury units. And now neighborhoods in the West End and Atlanta University Center are now averaging over $500 per month.

What can we do now?

  1. Preserve existing affordable housing
  2. Better protections of Renter's Rights
  3. Inclusionary zoning
  4. Property tax abatement
  5. Vacant property accountability and equitable code enforcement
